About the team
The Economic Development team is a dynamic, high‑performing unit within Council’s Community and Economic Development department. We deliver programs, events, and support that strengthen the local economy and champion the needs of Glen Eira’s business community. Our work spans collaboration across Council and the community, often extending beyond traditional economic development to influence broader initiatives and outcomes.

About the role
As our Economic Development Officer, you will provide operational and administrative support across a range of programs designed to strengthen local business capability, enhance commercial precincts, and contribute to a resilient and vibrant local economy.

You will build relationships with local businesses, contribute to community-facing initiatives, and assist in delivering projects that enhance business capability and strengthen our local economy. Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, you will help ensure the effective rollout of Council’s economic development priorities.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking research and collating economic and demographic data to identify emerging trends and support evidence‑based economic development initiatives.
  • Supporting the development, coordination and delivery of economic development programs and projects, including the Business Mentor Program, BusEd, Women in Business activities, business development initiatives, and other workplan actions.
  • Monitoring and assisting in reporting progress on indicators within the Economic Development Framework, annual action plan, and related Council strategies.

About you
You are a proactive and professional individual who brings strong communication skills, sound judgement, and a collaborative approach to your work. You build positive relationships with ease and are confident in engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, from local businesses to internal teams.

You enjoy undertaking research, interpreting data, and preparing reports that support informed decision‑making.  You are highly motivated by contributing to meaningful outcomes for the community and are committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen the local economy and enhance business capability.

The following is also required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and experience in business support, economic development, or project delivery.
  • Ability to undertake research, analyse basic data, and prepare clear operational reports.
  • Experience in supporting the delivery of programs, events, or community/business initiatives
  • Victorian Drivers Licence is mandatory.
