About the team
The Statutory Building Services team is responsible for ensuring buildings within Glen Eira are safe, compliant and meet legislative requirements. The team provides expert building surveying advice, administers and enforces building legislation, investigates compliance matters and works closely with residents, developers, regulators and government agencies to deliver positive community outcomes.

About the role
Reporting to the Coordinator Statutory Building Services, this role plays a key part in delivering Council's statutory building functions and ensuring compliance with the Building Act, Building Regulations and associated legislation.

You'll join a highly regarded team of building professionals who work collaboratively to deliver safe and compliant development outcomes across one of Melbourne's most dynamic municipalities.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and managing building enforcement matters, investigations and compliance activities.
  • Preparing reports, enforcement documentation and recommendations relating to building legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing expert advice on building compliance, enforcement and regulatory matters.
  • Participate in after-hours emergency call-out roster.

About you
You are a qualified Building Surveyor who combines strong technical expertise with sound judgement skills.  You thrive in a collaborative environment, can effectively manage competing priorities and enjoy working on compliance and enforcement matters that make a genuine difference to community safety

The following is also required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying.
  • Currently registered as a building practitioner with the Building and Plumbing Commission in the category of Building Surveyor Unlimited (BS-U) or Building Surveyor Limited (BS-L).
  • Experience in building compliance including a thorough knowledge and understanding of building practices and other regulatory responsibilities relating to building legislation.
  • Experience in residential and commercial assessment of building permit applications.
  • Excellent communication skills and commitment to delivering quality customer service.
  • A current Victorian Driver Licence.
