About the team
The Wellbeing and Social Policy team helps shape how Council responds to some of the biggest social and community issues in Glen Eira. We lead work across diversity and inclusion, reconciliation, community wellbeing, social policy and equity, partnering with colleagues and community organisations to turn good ideas into real outcomes. It's meaningful, varied work with plenty of opportunities to learn, contribute and create positive local impact.

About the role
As Diversity and Equity Policy Officer, you’ll play a key role in shaping policies and plans that deliver better outcomes for Glen Eira’s diverse community, with a focus on supporting people with disabilities, LGBTIQA+, First Nations and Traditional Owners and multicultural groups.

This position is all about embedding equity, access, and inclusion into Council’s strategic planning and decision-making, while supporting accreditation processes that showcase best practice.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the implementation of the Council Plan 2025–2029 to ensure inclusive, equitable and accessible priorities and actions that meet the needs of Glen Eira’s diverse community.
  • Lead the organisation's approach to diversity action planning, ensuring actions are strategically aligned and deliver meaningful and robust outcomes for community members in Glen Eira, and provide ongoing support and assistance in implementing actions.
  • Develop and review inclusion, equity, and access-focused policies and frameworks.

About you
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about creating inclusive communities and driving positive social change. You’ll be a strategic thinker who can turn ideas into action, build strong relationships, and champion equity and diversity across everything you do.

The following is also required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in humanities, health sciences, community development or related discipline with some relevant experience in a similar role, alternatively lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant experience.
  • Experience in the development of project plans, specific experience related to diversity, accessibility, equity and inclusion will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in partnership development and stakeholder engagement, including the ability to support and inform shared projects and initiatives.
