About the team
The Asset Consent Officer is part of Council’s Permits and Development Team within the Works Depot. The team includes a Permits Team and a Development Team, led by the Coordinator Permits and Development.

This role sits within the Permits Team alongside three Permit Officers. The Asset Consent Officer and Permit Officers report to the Team Leader Public Works and Permits and work together to support development and utilities permit processing and protect Council assets.

About the role
Our Asset Consent Officer works closely with utility providers, internal teams and the community to ensure all our utility works across Glen Eira are completed safely, efficiently and to standard.

You will review and process consent applications for utility works in accordance with the Road Management Act and other relevant legislation to ensure the quality of our roads and assets.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and issuing consents for utility works & other engineering permits in road reserves and public areas.
  • Provide technical guidance to the public and internal teams on asset related matters.
  • Maintaining accurate records and supporting the development of reinstatement standards.
  • Participating in after-hours callouts as required.

About you
You will have a sound knowledge of the Road Management Act, reinstatement standards, and safe workplace practices. Experience in coordinating utility or civil infrastructure works is essential, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks, communicate technical information clearly, and work collaboratively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

The following is also required:

  • Diploma-level qualifications in building, surveying, or civil construction, or equivalent experience.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation including the Road Management Act 2004, Telecommunications Act 1997, and Road Safety Act 1986.
  • Strong ability to prioritise tasks and manage inspections efficiently.
  • Experience in assessing road pavements, kerbs, footpaths, signage, and related assets.
  • A current Victorian driver’s licence.
