About the team
Public Affairs is the engine room of Glen Eira’s storytelling — driving how we engage, communicate, advocate and now, secure grant funding to invest in our community. We span community engagement, insights and reporting, communications, media, advocacy and, with this role, we’re expanding into the exciting new space of grants and external funding.

We’re a team that thrives on collaboration, creativity and impact. Whether we’re shaping a campaign, building relationships with government, or amplifying community voices, we’re here to make sure Glen Eira is heard, understood and supported.

We also believe in rewarding growth and investing in our people. Whether it’s through professional development, leadership opportunities, or simply backing great ideas, we’re here to help our team thrive. In fact, Public Affairs boasts some of the highest team engagement and alignment scores in Council and the local government sector, according to our most recent Employee Engagement Survey.

At the heart of our work is a commitment to building trust with our community — ensuring people feel engaged, heard and genuinely represented in the decisions that affect them. If you’re ready to be part of a team that’s progressive, passionate and deeply connected to the community — Public Affairs is the place to be.

About the role
Are you passionate about unlocking funding that drives real change in the community? We’re looking for a dynamic and strategic thinker to step into the role of Senior Grants and Partnerships Advisor — a key player in helping us deliver the projects that matter most to our growing city.

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of securing investment from government, philanthropic and external partners to bring Glen Eira’s bold ideas to life. From transforming public spaces to supporting vital community initiatives, your work will directly shape the future of our municipality.

The introduction of grants into our portfolio marks a new chapter — and developing a strategic, fit-for-purpose Grants Framework is front and centre. This is your chance to help shape that framework from the ground up, embedding a culture of proactive funding and partnership across Council.

In this role, you will lead the development of compelling grant applications, build strong partnerships, and provide strategic advice that helps us stay ahead of funding trends. You’ll also play a central role in our advocacy efforts — helping us tell Glen Eira’s story in a way that inspires action and investment.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Driving high-impact funding submissions that align with our strategic goals and community priorities.
  • Monitoring grant performance and ensuring we meet compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Advising on emerging funding opportunities and co-investment strategies that amplify our impact.
  • Supporting advocacy campaigns that reflect the voice of our community and promote Glen Eira’s vision.

This is more than a grants role — it’s a chance to shape a key function of a forward-thinking team that’s passionate about making Glen Eira a better place to live, work and thrive.

About you
You’re a strategic thinker and a natural storyteller — someone who can turn complex ideas into compelling narratives that inspire action and unlock funding. With a strong understanding of government funding frameworks, you know how to translate Glen Eira’s strategic priorities into persuasive, investment-ready proposals that deliver real outcomes for our community.

Whether your background is in grants, advocacy, or public affairs, you’re confident navigating complex organisations, building trusted relationships, and juggling competing priorities with clarity and purpose. You bring political nous, emotional intelligence, and a collaborative spirit — and you’re energised by the chance to help shape a better future for Glen Eira.

You also bring:

  • Extensive experience in a grants or advocacy role within government, not-for-profit or political environments.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Advocacy or a related field — or equivalent experience.
  • A deep understanding of government grants systems, including compliance, reporting, and the political context in which funding decisions are made.

You’re someone who sees the bigger picture, understands the ‘why’ behind the work, and is ready to make a lasting impact in a progressive, community-focused organisation.

Pre-employment checks
Progressed candidates must undergo pre-employment screening as a standard procedure which will include:

  • Employee Working with Children Check

  • Evidence of right to work in Australia.

Pre-employment checks are not used by Glen Eira City Council to prevent any applicant from applying for this position. Each application will be considered on its merits.
