Glen Eira City Councils Parks Services Department is looking for Open Space Maintenance Crew Members who are passionate and driven to provide excellent care of Glen Eira City Council’s parks and gardens.

We are currently advertising for roles in our dedicated horticulture maintenance team, maintaining gardens in parks throughout the municipality. These roles involve working with skilled teams in partnership with stakeholders, both internal and external, to maintain our existing assets and places as well as create new, vibrant and sustainable ones that meet the current and future needs of our community.

  • Base salary $65.4K + Superannuation + award
  • 9 day fortnight

About the role
We are seeking highly motivated, qualified, and experienced individuals to undertake day-to-day maintenance of Council’s parks and gardens. These team-based roles are an integral part of the Parks department, responsible for providing services that meet the needs of customers across the range of local government open space services.

  • Under direction by the Crew Leader, maintain open space to specified standards in the areas of weed control, cleaning, watering, trimming, planting and other associated park maintenance functions.
  • Provide assistance and information to members of the public when requested by the Crew Leader
  • Ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with agreed OH&S guidelines and safe working practices at all times.

Other responsibilities include/ Day to day duties include but not limited to:

  • Assist the Crew Leader to deliver daily tasks as set out in work schedules within agreed timeframes and standards.
  • Completion of work documentation including the utilisation of mobile equipment
  • Assist the Crew Leader to ensure all relevant safety guidelines are always followed.
  • Ensure equipment is routinely maintained in accordance with maintenance procedures to maximise safety and clean working conditions, immediately report any incidents of inappropriate use or mechanical abuse to the Crew Leader.

About you
You are passionate about horticulture maintenance and high quality public open space, with the ability to work well in a team. These roles will be in our horticultural maintenance crews and require experience and proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of a range of horticultural plant and equipment. You will also actively participate in reporting matters of health, safety and Council asset damage.

The following is also required:

  • Relevant experience and/or qualifications in horticulture field
  • Demonstrated commitment and adherence to organisational values and behaviours.
  • Experience with safe operation and maintenance of parks maintenance and landscaping plant and equipment.
  • Oral and basic written communication skills.
  • A level of physical fitness required to perform the physical inherent requirements of the position.
  • Ability to use basic mobile technology for the completion of work documentation and including the use of an asset management system is desirable.
  • Current Australian Drivers licence
  • A satisfactory Police Records Check and Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required for this position.

The following would be desirable:

  • Medium Rigid Truck Licence
  • AgVet Chemical Users Certificate
