About the team
The Climate and Circular Economy team are passionate, professional group designed to support Council and community to prepare for climate uncertainty, reduce waste, improve resource recovery and embrace opportunities for the circular economy. This will ensure Council and the community plan effectively for climate uncertainty, managing waste/resource recovery obligations and developing circular economy opportunities that matter.

About the role
As Team Leader Circular Economy Strategy, you will support a team of three specialists focused on circular economy, community engagement, and business partnerships. You will also oversee their priorities and guide them to deliver high quality outcomes across a range of projects and programs.

Your primary responsibility will be to design and deliver Glen Eira’s new 2026–2029 Circular Economy Strategy, ensuring it reflects best practice through intensive research, engagement, benchmarking, and data verification.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Shape future residual waste management recommendations for Glen Eira, in partnership with Council and the community
  • Oversee delivery of Year 4 activities of the Glen Eira Circular Economy Plan 2022-2026, including existing circular economy projects and education campaigns, to encourage circular economy behavior change, and lead your team’s community engagement/communications requirements.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and community networks to identify circular economy opportunities and pathways for community action.

About you
You have a proven ability to lead teams, establish positive culture, and deliver results under pressure. Your expertise in strategy, stakeholder engagement, behavior change and communication enables you to successfully design and implement strategies that reflect the Council, community, and its ambition for environmental stewardship.

You thrive in building partnerships, negotiating with stakeholders, and advocating for innovative solutions. Strong project management, research capability, and excellent written and verbal communication are essential. You have experience in successfully delivering strategies for Council and a solid understanding of Council governance practices.

The following is also required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in sustainability, circular economy, marketing/communications, project management, or a related discipline.
  • Proven strategic insight into circular economy practices, particularly with resource recovery, recycling, waste, and advocacy.
  • A solid understanding of the strategic challenges for Council and the waste and resource recovery industries that support it and being able to articulate these clearly to influence decision makers.
  • Project management expertise and the ability to guide teams on successful project management practices they may be designated to lead, including grant funding practices required to initiate projects.

Not meeting all the requirements for this role? We value diverse experiences for positive community outcomes. If you're excited about the position but don't perfectly align with the criteria, we still encourage you to apply.
