About the Role

As the Swim School Performance & Capability Officer, you will drive the development, coaching and performance of Swim School staff to build a skilled, confident and high-performing workforce. Working closely with Swim Teachers, Shift Supervisors and leaders, you will provide coaching, feedback and development opportunities that enhance teaching quality, consistency and staff capability.

You will play a key role in creating a culture of continuous learning and professional growth by coordinating training, onboarding, mentoring and development programs that support both staff success and exceptional customer experiences.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced aquatics professional who is passionate about developing people, improving teaching outcomes and supporting the ongoing growth of one of Melbourne's leading Swim School programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capability Development: Design, implement and continuously improve staff development frameworks, onboarding programs and ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Deliver coaching, mentoring and practical skills-based development opportunities to Swim School staff.
  • Teaching Excellence: Support staff to improve lesson delivery, class management and student engagement while maintaining high teaching standards.
  • Training Coordination: Identify capability gaps and coordinate targeted development initiatives in partnership with the Aquatics leadership team.
  • Career Pathways: Support internal career progression opportunities from Swim Teacher through to supervisory and leadership positions.
  • Compliance and Record Keeping: Maintain training records, competency assessments and professional development documentation while monitoring training completion requirements.
  • Program Improvement: Analyse participation, progression and retention data to identify opportunities for staff and program improvement.
  • Quality Assurance: Promote consistent teaching standards and program quality across all Swim School programs.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with Swim School leaders and key stakeholders to align development initiatives with operational needs and priorities.
  • Reporting and Insights: Provide accurate reporting and evidence-based recommendations relating to staff capability, training compliance and student progression outcomes.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience within an aquatics and/or Swim School environment.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor and develop staff to improve performance outcomes.
  • Experience designing, delivering and coordinating training, onboarding and professional development programs.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, coaching methodologies and competency-based training approaches.
  • Strong planning, organisation and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience analysing participation, progression and training data to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in training platforms, centre management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, customer service and maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Certificate.
  • Teacher of Swimming Extension qualifications (desirable).
  • Swim Coaching qualifications (desirable).
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience within the aquatic, leisure, training or recreation industry.
