About the team
Digital and Technology Services sits within the Customer and Corporate Affairs directorate and enables Council staff to work effectively across offices, remote locations and the field. The team is responsible for workplace technology, IT service delivery, cyber security, infrastructure and digital platforms that support the organisation’s day‑to‑day operations.

About the role
As the Cyber Defence Analyst, you will play a key role in protecting Council’s technology environment by monitoring, investigating and responding to cyber security threats and incidents.

Working within the Technology and Cyber Defence team, you will help safeguard Council’s systems, information and services while contributing to the ongoing improvement of cyber resilience and security capability

Other responsibilities include:

  • Monitor and investigate security events, alerts and suspicious activity across Council’s technology environment, ensuring threats are identified and responded to promptly.
  • Support cyber security incident response activities, including investigation, containment, recovery and collaboration with internal teams, service providers and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to vulnerability management and security improvement initiatives by identifying risks, supporting remediation activities and strengthening security controls.
  • Maintain and enhance cyber security tools, monitoring capabilities and operational processes to improve Council’s overall cyber defence and resilience.

About you
You will be a proactive cyber security professional with experience in security operations, threat detection and incident response, and a strong understanding of contemporary cyber security practices.

Additionally, you will enjoy working collaboratively, analysing complex issues and helping strengthen Council’s cyber resilience in a fast-paced technology environment.

The following is also required:

  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in Cyber Security, Information Technology or a related field, with hands-on experience in cyber security operations or incident response.
  • Experience using security technologies and investigating security events, with a strong understanding of cyber security threats, risks and industry best practice frameworks.
  • Relevant cyber security certifications and experience working with Microsoft security technologies in a regulated or complex operating environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess technical information and support effective risk mitigation and incident response activities.
  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain cyber security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
