About the role
As the Strategic Diversity and Inclusion Officer, you will contribute to the development and review of plans and policies that strengthen outcomes for Glen Eira’s diverse community, with a focus on supporting people with disabilities, LGBTIQA+ and multicultural communities. You will work collaboratively with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure that our policies, practices, and culture promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the development of the Council Plan and Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Planning to facilitate responsive and inclusive priorities and actions to meet the needs of our diverse Glen Eira community.
  • Lead the organisation's approach to disability action planning and provide ongoing support and assistance in implementing actions to ensure they deliver meaningful and robust outcomes for people with disabilities in Glen Eira.
  • Lead the development of new policies and review of existing inclusion and equity-focused policies for the Community and Economic Development Department.
  • Lead the development of responses to community enquiries that relate to accessibility, inclusion and discrimination.

About you
You are a dedicated and enthusiastic professional with a deep commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion across our community. You possess a strong understanding of the challenges faced by diverse communities and are passionate about creating equitable opportunities for all.
Your experience in diversity and inclusion initiatives equips you to lead meaningful change and foster a culture that values every individual’s contribution.

The following is also required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in humanities, health sciences, community development or related discipline with some relevant experience in a similar role, alternatively lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant experience.
  • Experience in the development of project plans, specific experience related to diversity, accessibility, equity and inclusion will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in partnership development and stakeholder engagement, including the ability to support and inform shared projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of information technology and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Employee Working with Children Check.
