About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated and vibrant individual who can support the Lifeguard Team Leader in the leadership of the operations team, with a focus on providing excellent supervision and service to our members and guests. 

This role is ideally suited to someone wanting to develop their career in the leisure industry, as GEL has a large focus on assisting in the development of staff and strengthening the skills of the Lifeguards and Lifeguard Shift Supervisors.

In this position you will:

  • Assist in managing and developing staff rosters ensuring coverage to keep all facilities open safely.
  • Assist with shift authorisation and timesheet approvals.
  • Support in the training and development of the Lifeguard team.
  • Assist the Lifeguard Team Leader in ensuring Service Improvement Plan scores are maintained for areas under direct supervision.
  • Respond to customer feedback in a timely manner and ensure the Lifeguard team is following the feedback processes.
  • Ensure staff are trained and updated on the use and manual handling of chemicals and dangerous goods and other OH&S procedures.
  • Assist with hazard and risk assessments and the maintenance of a register to ensure we proactively identify and manage potential issues before they arise.
  • Complete direct service roles.
  • Support the Lifeguard Team Leader in the maintenance of accurate, up-to-date records for:
    • OH&S risk assessments.
    • Water Quality
    • Accidents and incidents
    • Hazchem register.
    • Dangerous goods manifest.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports on key performance indicators for the business unit.
  • Perform other administrative tasks relating to Safety and Supervision as required.

 

Roster requirements

As part of this role, you will also undertake direct service in the Lifeguard team. You will be rostered up to 22.8 hours per week of direct service, with the remaining hours being administrative/leadership duties.

 

We Are Looking For

  • A Safety Focused Professional: Committed to delivering safe, high quality aquatic experiences, with a strong focus on supervision, compliance and risk management. Leads by example to ensure standards are consistently met.
  • A Capable People Manager: Confident in supporting, coaching and developing Lifeguards and Shift Supervisors, while assisting with day-to-day operations and decision making on shift.
  • A Strong Communicator & Collaborative Team Member: Builds positive relationships, manages challenging situations professionally and works effectively across teams to deliver great outcomes for the community.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong customer service experience and ability to engage effectively with a diverse community.
  • Experience leading, supporting, training and developing staff in a team environment.
  • Well developed problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making skills.
  • Sound understanding of aquatic safety, risk management, OH&S and compliance requirements
  • Current First Aid and CPR, Pool Lifeguard qualification and First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis and Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies in the workplace qualifications (or willing to obtain)
