About the team
The Public Affairs team is a collaborative group of communications, engagement, advocacy, and reporting professionals who are passionate about creating meaningful connections and driving positive community outcomes. We work at the centre of the organisation, partnering across Council and with government, industry, and community stakeholders to influence change, strengthen relationships, and amplify Glen Eira’s voice.

We’re a high-performing and supportive team that thrives on collaboration, fresh thinking, and continuous improvement. Whether we’re delivering strategic advocacy campaigns, navigating complex issues, or building strong partnerships, we’re always looking for new ways to create impact and deliver value for our community.

About the role
We’re looking for a strategic and relationship-driven Coordinator Advocacy and Partnerships to lead Council’s advocacy priorities and strengthen our external engagement across all levels of government and key stakeholder groups.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and drive advocacy initiatives that make a real difference for the Glen Eira community. Working closely with the Mayor, Councillors, CEO, and Executive team, you’ll provide trusted strategic advice, build influential partnerships, and help position Council as a strong and respected voice on key local issues.

You’ll also play a leading role in identifying new partnership and funding opportunities, while mentoring and developing capability within the team. If you’re someone who enjoys building connections, navigating complex environments, and influencing outcomes, this role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading the development and delivery of Council’s advocacy framework, priorities, and campaigns.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with MPs, Councillors, government agencies, and peak bodies.
  • Providing strategic and timely advice to senior leaders and elected representatives.
  • Preparing high-quality briefings, submissions, correspondence, and reports.
  • Representing Council in high-level meetings, forums, and stakeholder engagements
  • Identifying and pursuing strategic partnerships, funding opportunities, and grants.
  • Coordinating Council positions on key policy and advocacy matters.
  • Monitoring the political and policy landscape to identify opportunities and emerging issues.
  • Leading and supporting team capability through mentoring, collaboration, and development.

About you
You’re a confident and credible professional with experience in advocacy, public affairs, communications, stakeholder engagement, or a related field. You’re politically aware, highly organised, and comfortable working in fast-paced and complex environments where relationship-building and strategic thinking are key.

You know how to bring people together, influence outcomes, and communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively. You enjoy working collaboratively, building trusted relationships, and finding opportunities to create positive change.

You’ll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience influencing stakeholders and driving advocacy or policy outcomes.
  • Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing briefings, submissions, and reports.
  • Confidence engaging with senior leaders, Councillors, government representatives, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Political acumen and the ability to navigate sensitive or complex issues with professionalism and discretion.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in advocacy, communications, public affairs, policy, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in government, policy, political, media, or communications environments (highly regarded).

Not meeting all the requirements for this role? We value diverse experiences for positive community outcomes. If you're excited about the position but don't perfectly align with the criteria, we still encourage you to apply.

Pre-employment checks
Progressed candidates will be required to undertake pre-employment screening, including:

  • Employee Working with Children Check
  • New National Police Record Check
  • Evidence of right to work in Australia
