About the team

  • A team of five environmental professionals 
  • Lead and coordinate Council’s response to the climate emergency, including reducing greenhouse emissions from Council and the community, supporting Glen Eira's biodiversity and supporting our community to prepare for and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
  • Highly motivated by the impact that climate change is having on our community, and the difference we can make to the fight against climate change.  

About the role
As our Community Climate and Biodiversity Partnerships Officer, you will help design and deliver projects that support and engage our community to take action on climate change and protect local biodiversity. You will work with schools, community groups, residents, and other organisations to build strong partnerships and encourage people to get involved.

This role is about making climate action easy to understand and accessible for everyone. You will run community engagement projects, deliver events and workshops, create communication materials, and respond to community enquiries. You will also be working closely with Council teams to support the goals set out in our Climate Emergency Response Strategy 2025–2029.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering community climate and biodiversity projects
  • Building strong relationships with local groups, schools and residents
  • Managing project budgets and tracking spending
  • Preparing reports, proposals, and project plans

About you
You have a strong understanding of climate change, sustainability, and/or biodiversity, and are confident in engaging with a wide range of people. You are a strong communicator who is analytically minded and can write reports and communications materials that are easy to follow.

Experience running community programs or working in engagement roles will help you succeed, as will the ability to plan projects, manage budgets and stay organised.

The following is also required:

  • Tertiary qualification in related field or lesser formal qualifications with substantial relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of climate change, sustainability, community resilience and/or biodiversity, and effective strategies to address these challenges.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with strong ability to develop rapport with diverse stakeholders.
