About the team
The Civic Compliance Unit is predominantly responsible for investigation of breaches of the Glen Eira Community Local Law 2019, Domestic Animals Act 1994, Environment Protection Act 2017 and administering education and enforcement. The team works proactively to investigate breaches and promote a safe, respectful and well‑managed municipality.

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Civic Compliance Officer to be a part of our proactive Civic Compliance team.
In this essential role, you will support both the community and the organisation by consistently applying relevant Acts, Council Local Laws, Procedures, and Policies across the municipality with professionalism and respect.

Other responsibilities include:

  • To patrol, and if necessary, enforce on and off leash areas in public places and parks.
  • Monitor parks, reserves, picnic areas, pavilions, open space areas, sportsgrounds and recreation facilities to promote public safety and ensure proper use of parks and facilities.
  • To assess and process permit applications, issue permits and supervise the placement and conditions of those permits by authorised permit holders' within the municipality.
  • To take responsibility for compliance with the provisions of the Local Government Act, Council's Local Law, Domestic Animals Act and other relevant Acts and Regulations.
  • Attend to out-of-hours complaints from the public.
  • To assist in the investigation and reporting of complaints received.

About you
You are a confident and approachable person with the ability to gain cooperation from a wide range of stakeholders, including residents, permit holders, Council staff and the broader community. You communicate clearly, handle enquiries effectively and play an important role in educating the community and encouraging compliance.

The following is also required:

  • Certificate IV in Animal Regulation & Management or willing to obtain.
  • Certificate IV in Government Investigations or willing to obtain.
  • Knowledge of the Local Government Act, Road Safety Act, Road Rules Victoria, Litter Act, Domestic Animals Act and other relevant Legislation.
  • Current Victorian Driver's license.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends on a rotating roster.

Progressed candidates must undergo pre-employment screening as a standard procedure which will include Employee Working with Children Check, New National Police Record Check, Pre-employment medical assessment and Evidence of right to work in Australia.
