About the team
This role sits within the Technology and Cyber Defence team which forms part of the Digital and Technology Services department. The team is responsible for cloud platforms, infrastructure, cyber security, workplace technology and digital services that support the organisation’s day-to-day operations.

About the role
The Applications and Platform Engineer plays a key role in delivering reliable, secure and modern technology services that enable staff to work effectively and efficiently.

The role is responsible for the operational performance, availability, security, and lifecycle management of Council's enterprise applications, cloud services, endpoint management platforms, and modern workplace technologies.

As a senior technical specialist, the role will also be responsible for providing guidance and escalation support for complex application issues.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Lead the administration, support, security, and continuous improvement of cloud platforms, enterprise applications and modern workplace technologies.
  • Manage the lifecycle of applications, cloud services, and endpoint management platforms, including upgrades, patching, deployments, and change implementation.
  • Develop and maintain automation, integrations, APIs, reporting solutions, and PowerShell scripts to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and service delivery. 
  • Manage identity and access services, including authentication, conditional access, role-based access controls, privileged access, and user lifecycle management across supported platforms. 
  • Lead and contribute to cloud transformation initiatives, platform modernisation projects, application enhancements, and technology implementations that support organisational objectives and digital innovation. 

About you
You have extensive experience with Azure, Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra ID, enterprise applications, integrations, and data services.

You are comfortable working in complex environments and operating with a high degree of autonomy, with the ability to identify risks and implement appropriate remediation and improvement actions where needed.

You are collaborative, with strong communication skills and a continuous improvement approach to your work.

The following is also required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, and/or equivalent relevant industry experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, whilst providing technical leadership and mentorship to other team members.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining cybersecurity controls across Microsoft cloud platforms, including Intune security baselines, Microsoft Defender, Conditional Access, vulnerability remediation, and Essential Eight aligned controls.
  • Well-developed stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with business units, vendors, and technical teams to deliver technology outcomes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to exercise a high level of independent judgement.
