Building Surveyor - Combustible Cladding

  • $124K - $139K per annum (dependent on experience) + superannuation

About the role
You will play a key role in ensuring the efficient operation of the Statutory Building Services team by supporting its regulatory, administrative, and enforcement functions. You will contribute to the successful delivery of the Council’s Cladding Partnership Program, as well as conduct and coordinate building inspections to maintain compliance with relevant Acts and Regulations. Additionally, the role involves investigating complaints, addressing building safety concerns, and providing expert advice to relevant stakeholders.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Inspect, audit, and assess building work and existing buildings for compliance and safety in relation to non-compliant building work, illegal building work, essential safety measures or the like.
  • Investigate breaches of the Building Act and Regulations, coordinate the preparation of briefs and initiate proceedings in the Magistrates Court, Building Appeals Board, and Victorian Building Authority.
  • Conduct assessment of the structural sufficiency of fire damage, impact damage, and dangerous buildings as appropriate.
  • Participate in the after working hours Emergency Call Out roster as directed by the Municipal Building Surveyor

About you
You are a qualified Building Surveyor with a strong understanding of building regulations and compliance. You have excellent communication skills and the ability to investigate issues and provide clear advice to a range of stakeholders. With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to safety, you are proactive in ensuring regulatory requirements are met and the community is well-served.

The following is also required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying with significant and diverse industry experience.
  • Currently or ability to be registered as a building practitioner with the Victorian Building Authority in the category of Building Surveyor Limited (BS-L) or Unlimited (BS-U).
  • Extensive and diverse experience in Building Compliance including a thorough knowledge and understanding of building practices and other regulatory responsibilities relating to building legislation.
  • Relevant experience in residential and commercial assessment of building permit applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision and staff development.
  • Victorian Drivers License
