About the team
The Open Space Design and Delivery team forms part of Council’s Project Delivery department which plays a vital role in bringing Council’s plans to life. The Project Delivery team acts as a central hub by transforming concept designs to detailed plans and managing construction, delivery and final handover. Dedicated to excellence, the team strives for every project to be delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

About the role
As our Open Space Project officer, you will be managing contracts and supporting the delivery of a range of capital works and renewal projects related to our Open Space areas. You will manage the workflows from administration to construction and help bring new ideas to life in our parks and public spaces.

You will work closely with contractors and teams within the Glen Eira City Council, making sure that projects stay on track, meet budget and performance targets, and comply with all relevant legislation.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the delivery of Capital Works Projects, including design, construction, and renewal works for Open Space areas.
  • Monitoring financial targets, reporting on contract performance, and ensuring all projects align with Glen Eira’s objectives.
  • Overseeing external contracts to ensure contractors meet performance goals and compliance standards.
  • Coordinating meetings with contractors and community stakeholders, ensuring the community is engaged in relevant consultation sessions

What you will bring
You will bring a solid background in project management, with a particular focus on recreation and open space projects. You enjoy working closely with contractors and engaging with the community to make sure their needs are heard and met. Managing multiple priorities comes naturally to you, and you’re always focused on keeping projects on track.

The following is also required:

  • A qualification in Sports or Recreation Management, Project Management, or relevant experience in contract management and project administration.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking project-based work, contract management, and asset management.
  • Ability to review detailed capital works designs and contract specifications, providing advice and feedback or search for solutions as required.

Not meeting all the requirements for this role? We value diverse experiences for positive community outcomes. If you're excited about the position but don't perfectly align with the criteria, we still encourage you to apply.

Progressed candidates must undergo pre-employment screening as a standard procedure which will include:

  • Employee Working with Children Check
  • New National Police Record Check
  • Evidence of right to work in Australia.

Pre-employment checks are not used by Glen Eira City Council to prevent any applicant from applying for this position. Each application will be considered on its merits.
