About the team
The Climate and Circular Economy team delivers circular economy outcomes for the municipality, including the implementation of Glen Eira’s Circular Economy Plan 2022-2026 and development of the succeeding plan. The Circular Economy unit includes a Waste and Resource Recovery arm which manages Council’s recycling and waste services.  

About the role
Our Team Leader Circular Economy Service Innovations supports the shaping of Glen Eira’s circular economy future. You will lead projects that introduce new waste services and improve resource recovery. You will work on important circular economy and waste innovations such as:

  • Ensuring Council’s waste and circular economy services meet the current and future needs of its community.
  • Introducing household waste services for large multi-unit dwellings.
  • Rollout of a separate glass recycling service.
  • Collaborating with Council’s waste service contractors to implement service innovations and circular economy initiatives.
  • Introducing new circular economy services or trials to increase access to circular economy services.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Delivering action items in the Glen Eira Circular Economy Plan and related strategies.
  • Managing the procurement process of contracts, consultants, and contractors.
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation, service improvements and improved sustainability outcomes.

About you
You will need strong project management skills and the ability to lead complex initiatives from start to finish. A solid understanding of circular economy principles, waste and resource recovery practices, and how these apply in a local government setting is essential.

The following is also required:

  • Knowledge of procurement, budgeting, and contract management.
  • Ability to develop operational plans, identify service improvements, and ensure compliance with legislation and policies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Tertiary qualification in sustainability, project management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
