About the team
Join a friendly, experienced and values-led Maternal and Child Health team that is passionate about giving children and families the best possible start. Come and work in a unique setting that includes Australia’s largest Jewish community. Our service offers Universal, Enhanced, Outreach, Sleep & Settling programs, playgroups, Mother Goose, and Breastfeeding Support services.

As a graduate, you will be part of a structured cross-council Graduate Support Program, with mentoring, clinical supervision and regular opportunities to learn alongside other new MCH nurses.

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to make the move from study to confident MCH practice. You will provide high-quality, evidence-informed and family-centered care for children from birth to school age and their families across Glen Eira. With comprehensive orientation and supported clinical experience, you will consolidate your skills, grow your professional confidence and make a meaningful difference in the local community.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Deliver Key Ages and Stages consultations and provide health promotion, developmental assessment, parenting support and early intervention in line with the Victorian MCH Service framework.
  • Build respectful partnerships with families, recognise strengths and vulnerabilities, and connect families with appropriate health, early years and community services.
  • Actively participate in orientation, mentoring, clinical supervision, case discussion and targeted professional development as you transition to independent MCH practice.

About you
You are a recent—or soon-to-be—MCH graduate who is curious, compassionate and ready to learn. You have at least four post graduate years working in nursing and midwifery. You bring a warm, respectful approach to working with families, sound professional judgement and the confidence to ask questions when you need support. You enjoy being part of a team, can also work independently, and are excited to turn your studies into practical, positive outcomes for children and families.

The following is also required:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) and Registered Midwife, with a recognised postgraduate qualification in Maternal and Child Health Nursing, or eligibility to obtain these requirements before commencement.
  • An understanding of the Victorian Maternal and Child Health Service framework and a commitment to strengths-based, culturally safe and family-centered practice.
  • A current Victorian Driver License and access to a roadworthy, comprehensively insured vehicle.

Not meeting all the requirements for this role? We value diverse experiences for positive community outcomes. If you're excited about the position but don't perfectly align with the criteria, we still encourage you to apply.

Pre-employment checks
Progressed candidates must undergo pre-employment screening as a standard procedure which will include:

  • Employee Working with Children Check
  • New National Police Record Check
  • Pre-employment health declaration
  • Evidence of right to work in Australia.

Pre-employment checks are not used by Glen Eira City Council to prevent any applicant from applying for this position. Each application will be considered on its merits.
