About the team
Our Public Health team sits within Community Safety and Compliance and plays a critical role in safeguarding the wellbeing of our community. We are a passionate and dynamic team that uses innovation to create meaningful impact.

About the role
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will administer and implement legislative requirements under key public health legislation, while contributing to proactive and innovative service delivery across the municipality.

You will play an important role in ensuring compliance, managing risks, and promoting health and safety standards across local businesses and the broader community

Other responsibilities include:

  • Conduct food safety assessments of registered food businesses
  • Apply relevant legislation including the Food Act 1984, Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, Environment Protection Act 2017 and Tobacco Act 1987 through inspections, sampling, advisory and enforcement activities
  • Investigate and respond to complaints from the public and take appropriate remedial action
  • Undertake enforcement actions including issuing notices to ensure legislative compliance
  • Contribute to health promotion initiatives and public health projects
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting and service improvement activities

About you
You are a motivated and community-focused Environmental Health Officer who is passionate about public health and committed to making a positive difference. You bring a strong understanding of public health practices and the ability to apply legislation with sound judgement and professionalism.

You are confident working both independently and collaboratively and can effectively engage with a broad range of stakeholders, from business owners to members of the public.

You will also bring:

  • Bachelor of Health Sciences (Environmental and Public Health) or equivalent
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage difficult conversations effectively
  • Well-developed organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Sound judgement and confident decision-making under pressure
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset when handling complex situations
