About the role
As a Subdivision Engineer you will play a vital role in maintaining Glen Eira’s public infrastructure. You will assess applications, certify plans, and ensure that all public assets are built to the highest standards. You will also help manage development bonds and agreements, inspect construction works, and provide engineering advice throughout the development lifecycle.

You will also support the community by responding to enquiries, investigating complaints, and providing clear, technical advice to residents, developers, and internal teams.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Liaising with utility providers to coordinate works within Council Road reserves
  • Reviewing and approving stormwater drainage and water quality assessments.
  • Assessing subdivision applications and certifying plans in accordance with the Subdivision Act 1988 and Planning and Environment Act 1987.
  • Reviewing and approving utility consent applications under the Road Management Act 2004.
  • Assist with reviewing town planning applications and engineering assessments to ensure compliance with permits, Council standards, and policies.

About you
Our ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and be eligible for Membership of the Institute of Engineers.  You will have a solid understanding of the Subdivision Act 1988, Planning and Environment Act 1987, and Road Management Act 2004. You should be confident using GIS systems, Microsoft Windows, and customer service platforms like Pathway.

Strong communication skills are essential, as this role often needs to translate complex technical concepts into clear, practical advice for a diverse range of stakeholders.

The following is also required:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in local government or statutory authority.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (or equivalent).
  • Eligible for Membership of the Institute of Engineers.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation including the Subdivision Act, Planning and Environment Act, and Road Management Act.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A Victorian Driver’s License is essential.
