About the role
As our Risk Management Officer, you will be responsible for managing and supporting our claims process from beginning to end. You will also assist in the management and improvement of our insurance portfolio, looking at how we manage risks across the organisation, and ensuring we are prepared in case of disruptions or emergencies.

In this role you will work closely with other departments, our insurers, and sometimes external lawyers, to gather information, provide advice, and make sure everything is properly documented and actioned.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing letters and emails to determine the required action on formal claims, complaints, or general enquiries.
  • Recording and tracking all claims on Council systems like Microsoft , TRIM, and Pathway.
  • Responding to claimants by letter or email and helping guide them through the claims process.
  • Gathering background information and requesting reports from other departments.
  • Searching records and systems (including maps and asset records) to understand site conditions and past issues.

About you
You will have a background in claims handling and/or risk management, combined with the ability to provide practical, well-informed advice to all departments. Your understanding of relevant Australian Standards, and local government procedures will allow you to confidently manage complex situations and support the Glen Eira City Council’s overall resilience.

The following is also required

  • A tertiary qualification in risk management, business continuity, or relevant work experience in the area of claims management and/or risk management.
  • Experience managing a variety of claims and implementing risk management systems or frameworks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise reports and legal correspondence.
  • Sound knowledge of liability principles, insurance requirements, and relevant legislation affecting local government.
  • The ability to investigate incidents, analyse data, and identify practical risk mitigation strategies.

  • New National Police Record Check
  • Evidence of right to work in Australia.
